The Cape & Garden Route: Links Golf with Ocean Drama
The Garden Route is a 300-kilometre stretch of south-eastern coastline home to many of the nation's finest golf courses. Surrounded by the Outeniqua Mountains and maintained to the highest standards, The Links is a bucket-list experience for serious golfers. The Cape's maritime influence means wind can play a significant role in strategy, but from November to March, the southern summer brings long, bright days, with the ocean influence tempering temperatures and creating favourable playing conditions, especially with early-morning tee times.
Durban Country Club, one of South Africa's iconic courses, was rebuilt in 2023 after suffering extensive damage in the 2022 Durban floods. The course re-opened in 2024. The first five holes at Durban Country Club are regarded as being among the best opening stretches in world golf, and the round ends with two memorable holes, firstly the par-4 17th that rolls through two deep valleys, and the short par-4 18th with its green immediately in front of the clubhouse.
KwaZulu-Natal's Coastal Character
Zimbali's course has two distinct sides, with some holes in open former sugar cane fields and many others cutting through indigenous forest and coastal wetlands, while spectacular sea views can be enjoyed from the 14th to 18th holes.

When to Book Your Round
The optimal time for golf is between September and April, as there is minimal rainfall and warm weather during these months due to South Africa's location in the southern hemisphere. The shoulder months either side of peak season bring mild temperatures and thinner crowds, without giving up much in the way of playing conditions.
Plan ahead: Peak season means golf courses are often sold out, so you should book your tee time in advance.
