South Africa delivers some of the world's finest golf destinations — each region with its own character, climate and complementary experiences. Whether you want to combine your round with whale watching, wine tasting, a Big Five safari or simply the drama of the Indian Ocean coastline, we will design it. Below are our four main golf regions and the courses we play within each.

Cape Town golf course with Table Mountain

Cape Town & Cape Winelands

The Western Cape is South Africa's premier golf region — a remarkable concentration of world-class courses within easy reach of Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain backdrop. The Cape Peninsula offers links-style golf at Milnerton, historic parkland golf at Royal Cape (Africa's oldest club), and the estate glamour of Steenberg in the Constantia Valley. Venture into the Winelands and the settings become even more spectacular: Jack Nicklaus's Signature design at Pearl Valley, Ernie Els's fynbos masterpiece at De Zalze, and the classic Paarl valley clubs beneath the granite dome of Paarl Rock.

Season: Enjoyable year-round. April–October avoids the summer south-easter wind. November–April offers long sunny days in the Winelands.

Combine with: V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain, Cape Point, Boulders Beach penguins, Franschhoek Wine Tram, Stellenbosch wine estates, whale watching in Hermanus (May–November).

Garden Route & Overberg

The Garden Route delivers the most scenically dramatic golf in South Africa. At Fancourt — consistently rated Africa's finest resort — Gary Player designed three championship courses including The Links, the only course in Africa to have hosted the Presidents Cup. Pinnacle Point hangs over 100-metre cliffs above the Indian Ocean; Oubaai is carved through UNESCO fynbos with ocean vistas; Simola above Knysna Lagoon carries a Jack Nicklaus Signature pedigree. Even the classic George and Mossel Bay clubs, with over a century of history apiece, reward a round.

Season: Year-round. The Garden Route is one of South Africa's most temperate regions. April–October is ideal.

Combine with: Knysna Lagoon and Heads, Tsitsikamma Forest, Plettenberg Bay, Addo Elephant Park, oyster tasting, whale watching.

Sun City golf course with the Palace of the Lost City

Sun City & North West

Sun City needs no introduction. Home to the Gary Player Country Club — host of the Nedbank Golf Challenge for 40 years — and the Lost City Golf Course, set in an ancient volcanic crater with its famous live crocodile hazard on the 13th hole. Two hours from Johannesburg by road, Sun City combines world-class golf with the Valley of Waves water park, casino entertainment, five-star accommodation at the Palace of the Lost City and safari day trips to Pilanesberg National Park next door.

Season: Year-round. Avoid January–February peak rainy season.

Combine with: Pilanesberg game reserve (Big Five, 2 hours), Valley of Waves, casino, Palace of the Lost City hotel.

Kruger & Bushveld

For the bucket-list golfer, nothing compares to the Lowveld. Leopard Creek Country Club — Gary Player's self-proclaimed finest design — sits on the banks of the Crocodile River with Kruger National Park on the opposite bank. Elephants, hippos and crocodiles are a routine part of the playing experience. Further north, Legends Golf & Safari Resort in the Entabeni Reserve offers the Extreme 19th hole: a par 3 played from a 400-metre cliff top, accessible only by helicopter, with a US$1 million prize for a hole-in-one that remains unclaimed.

Season: April–September. Dry winter brings cooler temperatures, lower malaria risk and excellent game viewing.

Combine with: Kruger National Park game drives, Blyde River Canyon, Panorama Route.
